Robert (R.B.) Buford Hunnicutt, 88, of Odessa, passed away on Monday, August 22, 2016. His devotion to his family as well as his firm belief in God supported him in this earthly life and ultimately gave him peace.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00am Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Sherwood Church of Christ with Barry Galindo and Lynn Money officiating followed by a graveside service following at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
R.B. was born in a small farm near Weatherford, OK, to Robert Plummer Hunnicutt and Ethel Harriett Pigg Hunnicutt on March 23, 1928. He was their only child in which they were very proud of. R.B. was blessed with a large and loving family. He married Irma Lucille Walton, his lifetime partner of almost 68 years, on September 12, 1948. He was involved and served in many different roles throughout the years.
He was a Naval Reservist. He served on the school board at Odessa Christian School. In addition to being a dedicated husband and father, one role that he took seriously and served with much devotion was that of an Elder in the church. After almost 45 years of service in that capacity, due to health issues, he decided that it was necessary to resign. R.B. was kind and compassionate; he always had time to answer a question or solve a problem, no matter the need. He is dearly missed by all his loved ones, but we will celebrate in the fact that he is at peace with his creator.
R.B. and Lucille lived in several places in their time together but made their way to in Odessa where it became home in 1969. He worked in several different fields but his greatest passion was being an Oilfield Salesman. Driving for miles on those dusty dirt roads to different rig locations was something he took pride in. He worked until he felt it was time to turn in the log book and hard hat at 80 years old.
R.B. is survived by his wife, Lucille Hunnicutt and his four children: his daughter Joye Grimes and husband Guy of Altus, OK; daughter Sharon Perry and husband Ken of Abilene, TX; son Bob Hunnicutt of Albuquerque, NM and daughter Heather Boykin and husband Darryl of Odessa, TX. He is also survived by ten grandchildren: Jerry Grimes and wife Bernice, Holly Perry, Kera Perry Gardner and husband Brandon, William Grimes and wife Shannon, Mandi Perry Oskierko and husband Michael, Richard Grimes, Hunter Boykin, Sarah Hunnicutt, Emma Hunnicutt and Dyllen Boykin and eleven great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to Odessa Christian School in lieu of flowers. The family of R.B. Hunnicutt would like to extend much gratitude to NursEx Home Health, Deerings Nursing Home, numerous doctors, Hospice Midland, and our wonderful family and friends of Sherwood Church of Christ.
Arrangements are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home. To send family condolences please sign the guest registry at www.sunsetodessa.com.
