Rex Duane Talley, age 90, entered his Heavenly home on April 12, 2015. He passed away peacefully at home attended by his loving family.
Mr. Talley was born in Allendale, Illinois on May 2, 1924 to Noble and Winnie Talley. He married Edythe Middleton on March 4, 1946.
Rex was a proud member of the United States Army. He proudly served in World War II as an armored vehicle driver in the 8th Armored Division, 88th Reconnaissance. Mr. Talley received the Good Conduct Ribbon, Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Silver Star, and The European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal.
He had a long career in the oil field industry which took him many places including Libya, Kuwait, New Zealand, Trinidad, Argentina, and Venezuela as well as eight states in the US. Rex retired as manager of DOTCO/Donham Oil Tool Company's store in Elk City, Oklahoma.
Rex was a member of H. A. McFarland Lodge #1338 AF & AM, York Rite Bodies, Scottish Rite Masons, Shrine Club Member, Friendship Chapter #1008 OES, and a member of the VFW. He was also a member of the Odessa Gem and Mineral Society for many years and enjoyed his lapidary hobby. He used his talent and expressed his generous nature by making and giving many pieces of jewelry to family and friends.
Rex was a wonderful man who loved his family dearly. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle. He took great pride in his family and was always there to support and guide them. He had a wonderful sense of humor and brought lots of laughter wherever he was. He was a season ticket holder of Permian High School "MOJO" football and never missed a game. He loved spending time with his coffee buddies at Whataburger and Taco Villa and he loved NASCAR.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Edythe Talley; parents, Noble and Winnie Talley; sisters, Loretta Hoh, Irene Seibert; son, Richard Talley, and his granddaughter, Whitney Kay Talley.
He is survived by three children, Duane Talley and wife Susan of Odessa, Ed Talley and wife Kay of Brownwood and Cheryl Johnson and husband Hugh "Sam" of Odessa; nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and his sister, Esther Coulter of Sun Valley, Arizona.
The family of Rex D. Talley wishes to extend our sincere appreciation and thanks to Dr. Madhu Pamganamamula, Dr. Angirekula and his associates, Star Hospice of Odessa, and the many kind expressions of love and sympathy from friends and family.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 14 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home. Services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Sunset Memorial Chapel with Rev. Mike Bartlett officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
