Rick Hodges

November 9, 1946 — January 2, 2011

Rick Hodges was born in Moodys, Oklahoma on November 9, 1946. At the age of ten, his family relocated to Odessa, Texas. Rick attended Odessa High School where he played drums in the band and performed well academically. He graduated from OHS as an Honors student in 1965. He was Baptized into the Church of Christ as a teenager.

Because of his academic and musical talent, Rick was accepted into Juliard University with a partial scholarship. He chose to attend Odessa College. He then transferred to the University of Oregon for several years.

Ricks college education was cut short when he was called to serve in the Army. He proudly performed his duties in Vietnam and completed his military service with five medals. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Army Commendation Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

In the early 1970s, Rick returned to Odessa where he married and had a daughter. He worked as an oil field diesel mechanic until his retirement.

His family and friends will remember him as a hardworking, intelligent man. He enjoyed reading, learning, discussing current events, and spending time with family. He always put his familys needs first. He was a loving, affectionate father and grandfather.

Rick went to be with his Lord and Savior after many years of illness on January 2, 2011.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ama Cathern Hodges, his father, Howard Hodges and a sister, Linda Young.

He leaves behind many loving family members including his sister, Jean Bell, his brotherinlaw, Perry Young, his wife of 31 years, Janice Hodges, his daughter, Rheama Smith, his soninlaw, Nathan Smith, his three year old grandson, Maverick Smith, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Jimmy Braswell officiating. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Interim Hospice.
