Robert E. (Bob) Blazek, age 91, Of Midland, TX, passed away on September 14, 2018 in Midland.
Bob is survived by his wife of 30 years, Alma Blazek, his son Rick and his wife, Joy Sue Blazek of Florida, his daughter, Joy Lynn Johnson of Odessa, and his youngest daughter, Jayne and her husband, Mike Robinson of Midland.
Bob was born March 25, 1927 in Orient, Iowa. Bob grew up on a farm in Southwest Iowa and completed high school there. He moved to Texas at the age of 20 and worked on a drilling rig for the first time, then REA Express. He became their agent in Monahans, where his first wife, Lorene, led him to Christ. Two years later, he began doing supply preaching and was called as the first minister of Christian Church in Jal, NM, where he served for almost two years. While preaching in Jal, he worked for El Paso Natural Gas Co. Then Bob decided it was time for Bible College, so he moved Lorene and their three children to Dallas and entered Dallas Christian College in 1957. He preached and worked his way through DCC, graduating in 4 years with honors. He received B.A. and B.Th. Degrees from DCC and, a Master of Arts in Religion from Pepperdine University.
All of Bob's fulltime ministries were in Texas. He served as minister of North Dallas Christian Church and Parker Heights Christian Church in Odessa, first minister of Central Christian Church in McAllen, first fulltime minister of Central Christian Church in Richardson, and as minister of New Testament Christian Church in El Paso, helping them complete a project of building and relocation. He retired from Christian Church of Midland after 14 years of service in 1990.
After retirement, Bob and Alma conducted short term preaching ministries from 3 to 18 months in duration in Monahans, Odessa, Adina, and Wellington, TX; White City, OR; Beaver and Laverne, OK; Belen, NM; and Grand Junction, CO. They also ministered for three months in Lismore, New South Wales, Australia in 1999.
During his ministry, Bob preached over 30 revival meetings in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Kansas, and Illinois. In 1986, he spent 3 weeks in the Philippines preaching in Mindanao. Alma and Bob spent 3 weeks in Puerto Rico in 1986, where Alma had previously served as a missionary for 12 years. Bob had two booklets published as well as several articles in the Christian Standard and Restoration Herald. He also served as a part time professor at Dallas Christian College for 7 years. Bob was a ventriloquist and ministered with his pal, "Little Joe".
Lorene and Bob had 3 children, Rick, Joy and Jayne, all of whom are graduates of DCC. After Lorene died, Bob married Alma Zuelli. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Murray, Jesse, Erin, Rachel, and Jennifer, as well as 4 great grandchildren, Liam, Penny, Lincoln, and Eli.
Visitation will be from 7:00-8:30 PM, Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at One Hope Church of Christ at 2503 W. Ohio Ave, Midland, TX.
A Celebration of Bob's life will be at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at One Hope Church of Christ in Midland.
