Rogelio Roy Garza, also known as Popo to his grandchildren, 64, of Odessa, passed away Thursday, November 19, 2009 at home surrounded by his wife and family.
He was born August 20, 1945 in Seguin, Texas to mother Flora Davila and step-father Eduardo Davila, Sr. He was a sales delivery driver for 14 years at Golden Brew in Odessa, Texas and was very dedicated to his work. He was in the army in 1964 and served in the Army Reserve for two years and was recognized as a great sharp shooter of the rifle M-14. He loved fishing, working on cars, collecting cars and motorcycles and enjoyed watching boxing. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, whom he had special bonds and wonderful memories with.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Flora Davila and step-father Eduardo Davila, Sr.; brothers, Edward Davila, Jr., Ambrose Davila, Steven Davila and grandson Andrew Santos.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Mary Garza of Odessa; daughters, Lavinia Garza and husband Ignacio of Odessa, Texas, Michelle Todd of Midland, Texas and Darling Garza of Post, Texas; sons, Rudy Roy Garza and wife Sherry of San Antonio, Texas and Robert Todd and wife Brenda of Amarillo, Texas; sisters Dora Rodriguez and Rosemary Tuck of Post, Texas, Flora Mendez of Phoenix, Arizona, Martha McClenan and Mercedes Vera of Lubbock, Texas; grandchildren, Samantha Todd, Daniel Barrandey, Alexa, John-Mathew, Emily, Ignacio , Jr. and Brooksy Guerrero, all of Odessa, Texas, Katelynn, Jakob and Kalob Todd of Amarillo, Texas; Priscilla Lupita, and Martin Angel Garcia of California, Princess Hope Garcia of Virginia, DeAmor, Isiah Angel, Damian Garcia, all of Post, Texas; great-grandchildren, Ayden and Alec Sotelo, of Odessa, Texas. He also had many nieces and nephews whom he loved very much and dearly. He also had lots of friends who will also miss him dearly.
The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Cofressi and his nurse from the VA for being so compassionate, to all the nurses on 8th and 9th floor and ICU, and the doctors at MCH who cared for him during his stay there. We would also like to include Compass Hospice and especially Reverend Clay Porter, Manuel, Minka and Kyle for their shoulders and support and his therapist Sida Dutchover, Nicole Mathis and Glen Nelson, and his special care giver and friend, Lupe Madrid, and to all our family and friends who kept us in your thoughts and prayers.
Memorial services are scheduled for Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 4:00 P.M. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Clay Porter officiating.
