Roland J. Vaught, 88, of Odessa, passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2016 in Odessa.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, October 2, 2016 at Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Monday, October 3, 2016 at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Reverend Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating.
Roland was born to Johnie Calvin Vaught and Beulah Anderson on August 10, 1928 in Cookville, TX. He grew up on his family farm. In 1946 at age 17 he enlisted in the US Air Force and maintained airplanes at Lowry Field in Denver, CO. After his service, the pipelines brought him to West Texas. He ended up coming to Odessa by 1950 where he worked for a lumber yard and lived in the old Army barracks on Adams St. before working in the oilfield. He met his wife Dorothy Frances Greathouse in Robert Lee, TX and had four sons.
In 1977 he became partner in V & B Drilling with his best friend Vernon Byrd, whom now lives in Laurel, MS.
After retirement, his favorite pastime was caring for his horses and dogs.
He had a great love for his family and took care of us all.
Roland is preceded in death by his parents and brother Joe Vaught.
Those left to hold his memories in their hearts are Dorothy Vaught, sons Mike Vaught, Gary and Sandi Vaught, Randy and Terri Vaught, Mark and Shayne Vaught, grandchildren Shawn Vaught, Travis Vaught, Dr. Alan and Kara Vaught, Kyle Vaught, Stephanie and Bruce Thisted, Chris and Lisa Vaught, Kim Vaught, Jeff and Aspen Vaught, Jessica and Kendall Adolph, Teresa and James Salyards, Anna and JayCee Lopez, his beloved sisters Lois Fisher and Ruth Lide, 16 Great-Grandchildren and 1 Great, Great-Grandchild, Sister-in-law Ann Vaught and a Special thanks to Tiffany Vaught for her care and love.
