Romelia Gomez Mata
1925-2017

On July 6, 2017, our devoted mother, wife, grandmother, great grandmother, godmother, and friend passed away to peacefully rest at the age of 91. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Romelia Gomez Mata was born on December 27, 1925, in San Jose, Texas. She married Andres Gonzales Mata on October 15, 1949, in Odessa, Texas.

Romelia's devout Catholic faith and servant heart was exemplified through her dedication to God, family, home and beyond. She made caring and nurturing her family her sole vocation in life.
You could always find her door open to anyone needing a nourishing meal or a loving ear. We all have our treasured memories of her from her kitchen that not only served as a safe haven;
as well as a family meeting place to enjoy her famous red enchiladas and each other's company.

Left to cherish her memory are her three sons, Alfonso Mata; Alvaro Mata and wife Yvonne Mata; Pablo Alberto Mata and wife Rosario Mata; daughter, Maria del Carmen Mata Ramirez and
Ricardo Ramirez; her sisters, Rosalina Spencer and Socorro Salgado; her grandchildren, great grandchildren, godchildren, and abundance of family and friends who love her.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Andres Gonzales Mata, Sr.; son, Andres Mata, Jr.; father, Epigmenio Gomez; mother, Leonor Baeza Gomez; brothers, Pilar Gomez and Manuel Gomez.

Rosary will be at 7:00 p.m., Monday, July 10, 2017, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Mass will be at 11:00 am, Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with Father Juan Fernando Bonilla, MSP, officiating.

Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Andres Cristoval Mata, Hiram Leonel Mata, Alvaro Antonio Mata, John Samora, Andrew Ramirez, and Alexander Mata.

A few words alone cannot describe her impact on so many lives. She touched everyone's heart in a unique and special way. She will be truly missed by all who had the privilege to know her.
