Rosa Torres

July 23, 1949 — July 21, 2016

Rosa Duarte Torres, 66, of Odessa walked joyously through the gates of Heaven on Thursday, July 21, 2016 and was welcomed there by her mother, Guillermina and father, Refujio Torres, brother-in-law Nolberto Aguirre and many more relatives and friends. She will always be remembered as a loving, vibrant and caring daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great-aunt and great-great-aunt.

Rosa was born into this world on a Saturday, July 23, 1949 in Odessa, Texas. She was a devoted daughter to her loving parents, and an endearing little sister to Eduvijes (Vico) Aguirre, Santos Ramos and Refujio and Antonio Torres.

She graduated from Ector High School in 1967 and, soon after, started a career with Southwestern Bell Telephone that continued for forty years. She moved up within the ranks and became a valued employee for her technical experience in modern digital conversions. Many co-workers who became her close friends recall her dedication to professional excellence and expressed their admiration of her exemplary work ethic.

In her life, Rosa embraced new experiences with a sense of discovery and great heart. She traveled to England, Belgium, Netherlands, Switzerland, France, Germany and many other places. Even recently, she was entertaining the idea of a trip to Thailand. As a friendly, witty and warm soul, she made many loyal and life-long friends. She enjoyed dining at many cuisines and never shied away from trying new things. Her independent spirit brought many adventures and happy times with family and friends. Through the years she cared for and enjoyed the company of many pets that returned their affection in kind. Some of her favorite things were music, dancing, sports, movies, modern tech and gardening. She respected the wisdom of the past and delighted in learning about new advancements in the world.

She was a remarkable soul that sought to love and support the efforts of all her family members, be they that of a tiny tot or grown-up, and she built confidence with unconditional love. Her faith in prayer and life lived by example created hope and opportunity for all her loved ones. She smiled and you smiled. Her hugs were sincere and her honesty not spared when needed. Those loved by her felt an eternal blessing delivered with an amazing sense of humor and grace.

Rosa is preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law Nolberto. She is survived by her aunt Delfina Pina of Chihuahua, Mexico, sisters Eduvijes and Santos, brothers Refugio and Antonio, brother-in-law Santiago, and sisters-in-law Angela and Maria. She will also be remembered with great love by her nieces Olivia, Vicky, Teresa, Maria and Christina, nephews Elias, Agustin, Nolberto, Leo, Martin, Javier, Cesar, Adrian, Jaime, and Mark, and a myriad of adoring great, and great-great nephews and nieces. We will all miss her every sunny Summer, chilly Winter, new Spring, and serene Fall days.
