Rovena Langford Henslee died peacefully on February 23, 2018 in Odessa, Texas at the age of 78.
Rovena is survived by her husband Jim Bob Henslee, daughters Shirley Bruce of Houston, Texas and Sharon Kenyon and husband Arnold of Enid, Oklahoma, stepdaughters Janis Gorby and husband Billy of Odessa, Texas and Kim Henslee of Odessa; brothers Robert Langford and wife Nedria of Hobbs, New Mexico and James Langford of Odessa, Texas. Grandchildren Steven Talley and wife Kayelee, Amber Pyeatt and husband Danny Chelius, and Aaron Gorby. Rovena is preceded in death by her parents Sedwric and Inez Langford of Rankin, Texas. Brothers Roger Langford and Thomas Langford of Odessa, Texas and sister Carolyn Firebaugh of Odessa, Texas. Rovena is survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great grandchildren, and friends.
Rovena was born on March 30, 1939 in McCamey, Texas to Sedwric and Inez Langford. She graduated from Rankin High School in 1957. She married Jess Bruce on May 25, 1957 in Rankin, Texas and remained married until his death August 8, 1975. They welcomed two children into their home. She married Jim Bob Henslee on September 5, 1985 and enjoyed his company until her death.
Rovena held a cosmetology license in the early 1960s and worked for Sears Roebuck for many years. She was an accomplished businesswoman who owned and operated two independent businesses, The Trophy Den and Expressions Flower shop. She was a caring individual who loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed exploring history by visiting cemeteries and reading headstones and was passionate about genealogy. She was an active member of the Baptist Church and prayed faithfully for her family. In her instructions for her funeral she included the following directive regarding her great grandchildren - "Remember to pray every night that Kynndal, Naomi and Charlotte will grow up to accept Christ as their Savior."
A funeral is scheduled for Monday February 26, 2018 at 10 am at Sunset Funeral Home, Odessa, Texas, with a reception to follow at Sunset Funeral Home. The Reverend Jimmy Braswell will officiate the ceremony.
All are welcome to attend and celebrate Rovena's life. Rovena requested that all in attendance to wear bright colors in celebration of her life.
