Roy R. Brown, 77 a longtime resident, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2008 at Hospice House. He had struggled with Alzheimers disease for the past two years.
Roy was born December 8, 1930 in Bakersfield, CA. He married Hazel Lee Reid on December 1, 1951 in Kilgore, TX. They were happily married for 56 years. This marriage was blessed with a son, James and daughter, Teresa. He served 5 years in the U.S. Army and was a Korean veteran. In 1956 Odessa became home for the family.
He was employed by General Tire Rubber Co. for 39 years and retired in 1997. Afterwards, he was employed by Premier Parking for 10 years, driving the shuttle bus at Midland-Odessa Airport. He took great joy in serving and interacting with people, wherever he went.
The times spent with his family and friends camping and water skiing made many good memories. Roy had a special place in his heart for his dogs, Ike, Pepe and Monique I and II. Roy was a member of Eisenhower Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents James Hubert and Ruby Brown and extended family member, Jay Plummer.
Survivors are his wife, Hazel Brown, son; James and wife Debbie of Hobbs, NM; daughter, Teresa Ingram of San Antonio, TX; brother Bill Brown and wife Darlene of Odessa; nephew, Steve Brown and a niece, Debbie Williams and husband Phillip.
Sister-in-law; Nealy Lahair and husband John and neice Stephanie Mooris.
Grandchildren; Jeremy Brown and wife Jessica of Austin, Kirk Brown of Austin; Daniel Brown of Hobbs, NM; Krista Susan and husband Donny of Odessa; Kala Asbury and husband Alvie of Utah; Bobby Hummel of Odessa and six great-grandchildren. Extended family members: Novelean Plummer, Jamie Worley, Don and Sandy Everett and Nancy Brigham.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M., Tuesday July 22, 2008 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Vestal officiating. Interment with military honors VFW Post 4372. Family visitation will be held between 6-8 pm on Monday, July 21, 2008 at Sunset Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Jeremy Brown, Kirk Brown, Daniel Brown, Bobby Hummel, Donny Susan and John Lahair.
Family request donations be made to the Hospice House in Odessa.
