Roy Howell

Roy Howell, 72, of Odessa, passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 in Odessa.

Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00pm Thursday, September 15, 2016 at Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Friday September 16, 2016 at Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home with Reverend Chris Hurst officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Roy was born in Levelland, Texas to Charlie and Dollie Howell on January 29, 1944. He was raised in Goldsmith, Texas and graduated from Odessa High School. He married Charlene Moore on May 13, 1964 in Odessa, Texas. He served in the Army from 1964-1966. He worked in the oil industry for many years before he started his own business. He owned and operated R & D Specialties 30 years before retiring. He enjoyed many hobbies during his life from 4-wheel drive clubs, quarter horses, hunting, and fishing. He also enjoyed traveling with the Texas Discovery Road Runners and anything else that included spending time with family (especially grandkids). Since his retirement, he became a volunteer for the Odessa Red Cross where he received the Clara Barton Volunteer of the Year Award.

Roy is preceded in death by his parents Charlie P. and Dollie C. Howell, his sister Barbara Ward and his brothers Kenneth Howell and Toby Howell.

Roy is survived by his wife of 52 years, Charlene Moore Howell, his daughter Leah and husband Todd Mahan, son Brad and wife, Staci Howell, Sister Charlene Lewis, his four grandchildren, Dane Mahan, Mason Mahan, Ally Howell, and Ethan Howell.

Memorials may be given to Odessa Red Cross and West Texas Cancer Center.
