Ruth Phillips

Ruth Ann Phillips, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed from the earth to be with the Lord on August 12, 2017 in Odessa at the age of 90.

Ruth Ann was born in Pickerton, Ohio on January 26, 1927 to Ralph and Nellie Ebright. She was a graduate of Pickerton's school system. She married Eugene Phillips and was blessed with two daughters, Kathy and Linda. Kathy is married to Walt Barton and lives in Saldata,
Alaska. Linda is married to Jack Parson and they live in Mesa, Arizona. Linda has two daughters, Leann Louise Ellis (deceased) and Angela Dawn Michele Courtney. Angela is married to Frederick (Fred) Courtney III and between them they have five children: Ashley Michele, Gabriella, Iris, Frederick, and Nicole Courtney. Ruth Ann has one brother, Jim Ebright and family of Pickerton, OH.

Ruth Ann met Kyle Scarborough while returning from Alaska, on the ferry ship, known as the Alaskan Highway that travels from Skagway, Alaska to Bellingham, Washington. It was love at first sight. She agreed to move to Odessa with Kyle in 1999 and has made her home here.

Ruth Ann and Kyle love to travel and dance, and to belong to three dance clubs. Ruth Ann visited the Northside Senior Center and found many new friends, especially Verte Fulks, who is closer to her than sisters.

Ruth and Kyle have been in 48 states and Canada. Her favorite states were Utah and South Dakota, and she loved Big Bend of Texas.

The family would especially like to thank Dr. J.B. Naidu and his staff, Dr. Raja Naidu, the doctors and his staff at the Texas Oncology, and her therapist, nurses and staff at Madison Medical Resort for the wonderful care she received.

Her family in Arizona would ask her what Odessa was like, she replied "oil well, mesquite bushes with Walmart plastic bags". Ruth loved living in Odessa and especially the friendly people.

Ruth Ann had two other friends that she was especially close: Martha Talbert and Jo Blevins and loved Kyle's family and they loved her.

A Memorial Service is scheduled for 1:00 pm, Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Larry Hood officiating.
