Obituary
Ruth Ella Rand Rheams was born August 25, 1938 in Lott, Texas to Riley Rand Sr. and Easter Masters Rand. Ruth was the youngest of 5 siblings and is preceded in death by her parents, Riley Rand Sr & Easter Masters Rand; her sister, Bertha Lee Jernigan, and brothers Riley Rand Jr & Henry Rand. She departed this life and received her call to glory on Monday May 7, 2018 after battling a long illness.
On December 6, 1960 Ruth married the Love of her Life Albert Edward Rheams, in Waco, Texas. She had been in love with Albert, a childhood friend and classmate of her older brothers, since the beginning of time. The Love they shared was epic and their union produced two children, Mellonee Rheams & Albert Edward Rheams II. Her family meant everything to her. She worked tirelessly and made whatever sacrifices necessary to ensure that her husband and children were well cared for.
Ruth began her education at Douglas Elementary School, Blackshear and graduated from Blackshear High School in the class of 1957. On June 1, 1962 she graduated from Paul Quinn College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education. She was a gifted teacher who loved working with preschool and elementary aged children. She had many highlights in her teaching career including teaching school in Germany while her husband was stationed there. She completed her teaching career with the Ector County Independent School System after many years of service.
There was never a dull moment when Ruth was around! She was full of mischief and shenanigans. Ruth could make you laugh even on her worse day. She enjoyed laughing at her own jokes and the jokes of others and often joked that she was the "Black Lucille Ball." She was always the life of the Party! Ruth was also a great story teller that could make you feel like you were there, as it was happening. But, as much as she enjoyed humor, she also had a serious side; often pondering why there was so much suffering in the world and constantly praying for peace and joy for herself and others. She once said: "I don't completely understand religion, but I know there is only one God that loves us all." Ruth is now reunited with that loving God. We will miss her in the physical body, but her spirit will be with us forever.
She leaves to treasure her precious memories her loving husband of 57 years, Albert Edward Rheams; her daughter, Mellonee Rheams(Atlanta, Georgia); Her son Albert Edward Rheams II and daughter-in Law; Darcus Shanadrian Rheams (Ferris, Texas); her sister Dorothy Moore (Abilene, Texas); her sister-in-law Celestine Rand of Odessa, Texas; and three Loving Grandchildren who were the apple of her eye; Morgan Brittnae Rheams, Albert Edward Rheams III and Quincy Rheams and a host of nieces, nephews, family and special friends.
