Sammye Layne Dyson, age 65, of Odessa, TX, went to meet his Savior on Christmas day, 2014 in Odessa.
Sammye was born at home in Odessa, TX, to Winnie Estelle Clark and William Martin Dyson. He graduated from Odessa High School in 1968. He loved restoring old cars, fishing, playing pool and sports. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan.
He played high school basketball and football until he sustained a debilitating knee injury. He made lifelong friends while in school including Leroy Hester of Austin, TX and Robert Clinton of Odessa, TX, who remained his best friends until his death. He married Edith Eydie Green in 1975.
Sammye is preceded in death by his parents, Winnie and William Dyson stepfather, Hardy Frazier his wife, Eydie Dyson son, Johnny Martin Dyson five brothers, Bobby Gene Dyson, Donald Cotton Dyson, Kenneth Dyson, William Jan Dyson, John Wayne Dyson three sisters, Gwen Peters, Helen Bingham and Vicki Lynn Mallory.
Sammye is survived by a son, Jimmy Wetmore and children, Heather Austin and Kayleah Wetmore of Odessa one grandson, Sammye Layne Dyson II, of San Angelo, TX great granddaughter, Paiten Lorraine Dyson of Odessa, TX stepgrandson, Justin Johnson Jessica, two stepgreat granddaughters, Ashley and Katie Johnson three sisters, Gerry Shirley of Longview, TX, Judy Holt of Odessa, TX and Debra Sue Freeman James, of Odessa, TX as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel in Odessa, TX at 1:00 PM on Friday, January 2, 2015 with Chris Edenes officiating.
