Sandra Schmitz

Sandra Wright Schmitz, age 75, went peacefully to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at her home in Stanton, Texas, surrounded by her family.

Sandra Claire Wright was born on November 29, 1934 in Odessa, Texas to Oscar Claire and Maxine Wright. She graduated from Odessa High School in 1953 where she was voted most talented for two years. She attended Texas Tech University and was one of the winners in the Miss West Texas Beauty Pageant.

She married Edy Whitmore in 1954 and to this union, three children were born. She married Monroe Schmitz in 1973. They enjoyed 32 years together until his death in 2005. Sandra worked for the Western Company in Seagraves, Texas for many years and then for Energas in Odessa, Texas until her retirement in 1998.

Her favorite pastimes were spending time with her children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren and playing bingo. She will best be remembered for her loving and caring personality. She loved everyone and everyone loved her. After moving to Stanton in 2009, she quickly became a loyal volunteer at the Martin County Senior Citizen Center.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, husband Monroe, son Edy Whitmore, Jr. sister Sally Wright Gist and greatgrandson Trigger McSperitt.

Sandra is survived by her daughters, Wendy McSperitt of Weatherford, Oklahoma, Sally Poteet and husband John of Stanton, Texas stepchildren, Cathy Huffman and husband Doug of Wolfe City, Texas, Randy Schmitz and wife Melissa of Midkiff, Texas, Lynn Mullins of Elgin, Texas grandchildren, Brock McSperitt, Christina Chris Carroll Lali, Jessica Flores Thomas, Timmy McSperitt, Laci McSperitt, Scott Fields, Brian Fields Rebecca, Jennifer Eickenhorst, Sara Eickenhorst, Curtis Schmitz, Josh Schmitz, Katie Schmitz, Jacob Schmitz Erin and Jeremy Poteet Ali, 18 greatgrandchildren and many loving friends.

The family will receive friends from 68 PM on Friday, October 15, 2010 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Saturday, October 16, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel, with Wayne Shelton officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
