Sara Bennie

Sara Bennie, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at the age of 88.

Sara was born on October 21, 1930 in Mt. Vernon, Texas to Curtis and Inez Anderson. She was the youngest of four children. She graduated salutatorian at Mt. Vernon High School in 1947. She attended Sam Houston State Teacher's College and graduated with a degree in education. She married O.H. Bennie on June 22, 1952 in Odessa, Texas.

Sara taught for ECISD for 33 years, which included time at Odessa High School, Bowie Junior High School and Bonham Junior High School. She was a member of the Wesley Couples Sunday School Class at First United Methodist Church in Odessa.

Sara is preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband and her siblings, Elaine Wilson, Billie Gantz and Oscar Pat Anderson.

Sara is survived by her daughter, Karen Burroughs and husband, Joe of Odessa, son, Dale Bennie and wife, Liz of Moore, Oklahoma, granddaughter, Lindsey Burroughs of Odessa, grandson, Derek Burroughs and wife, Keri and her great-granddaughter, Saylor Burroughs of Richmond, Texas.

The family would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Mabee Center and all of the staff at Manor Park for taking such good care of Sara for the past 7 ½ years.

Graveside services will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at 11:00 AM, with Reverend Donnie Williams officiating.
