Shirley Ruth Gayoso went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, May 27, 2021. She was born Shirley Ruth Bosch on April 26, 1954, in Lodi, California to Andrew and Kathryn Bosch. She was the youngest of six children.
Shirley was raised in Lodi, California and graduated from Lodi High School. She then attended Cosmetology School and was licensed to practice in California. In 1972, she married Roger Charles Shedd. This marriage ended in divorce, but from it was born their son, Jason Robert Shedd. Nobody was prouder of that son than Shirley. In 1977, she moved to Odessa and in 1982 she met and married Kenneth Ray Gayoso. Kenneth and Shirley combined their families with love. Kenneth became "dad" to Jason and Shirley became "mom" to Ken's son, Bryan. Motorcycles were a large part of their life. With Bryan already riding his dirt bike in Enduros, Kenneth soon got Shirley and Jason bikes of their own. Many special times were had spending time at a motorcycle ranch in Weatherford, Texas meeting and riding with the rest of the family. Later, Ken and Shirley turned to street riding and taking their vacations riding motorcycles. One of their many adventures included calling to check in along their ride – from South Dakota. They had originally left the house on a trip for New Mexico….
Shirley loved to fish, and you could often find her and Ken at Lake Sweetwater with their lines in the water. Even after Ken died, she went to California to go trout fishing with her brother and loved every minute of it.
Shirley worked for Bearing Supply Company from 1977 to 1993. In December of 1993 she went to work for the Ector County Appraisal District where she earned the designation of Registered Professional Appraiser. Within the Appraisal District, Shirley worked as a real estate appraiser, oil and gas appraiser and commercial and business personal property appraiser. In September 2008, Shirley moved on to Hilliard Energy in Midland where she worked in Land and Lease Administration. In 2009 Shirley relocated to Midland and turned her love of real estate into a profession when she earned her Texas Real Estate License. Gayle Hirsch made a place for her in her real estate office where Shirley loved to help people find or sell a home. Eventually, Shirley made her way into oil and gas and formed her own company, SRG Land Services, LLC. She worked as an independent landman until she retired.
Shirley accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior in 1982. She was a member of Antioch Christian Church where she served on the Garden Committee. She was a past member of the Texas Association of Appraisal Districts and an Alumnus of Leadership Odessa. Shirley was also a past President of the International Toastmasters Organization, past member of the Odessa Board of Realtors, National Association of Realtors and the Texas Association of Realtors. Shirley was a current member of the American Association of Professional Landmen.
In 2014, Shirley joined the Sisters on the Fly, an outdoors group for women. Shirley and 'The Grasshopper' went on many camping trips, enjoying the outdoors and the many friendships she developed with women of similar interests.
Shirley leaves behind many family members and an enormous group of friends that will miss her beyond measure. She is survived by her son, Jason Robert Shedd and partner, Monica Schwab of Odessa, Texas, and stepson, Kenneth Bryan Gayoso of San Angelo, Texas; her granddaughter Hannah Nicole Shedd of Midland, Texas; her brother Arnold Bosch and his wife Darlene, of Wallace, California; her sisters, Louella Holland of Weatherford, Texas and Deloris Harper and Marie Hill, both of Odessa, Texas; her niece Rae Lynn Garcia and her husband Pete Garcia and their children Yelina Jimenez, Kathryn and Pete Garcia; and her close friend JB “Mac” McNaughton who brought much laughter and love to her life in recent years. Shirley also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and extended family whom she loved dearly.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Kathryn Bosch, one sibling that died in infancy and her husband, Kenneth.
Shirley will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Not a day will go by when we will not see her smile or hear her infectious laughter. She was a loyal friend and loved her family endlessly. She was loving, kind, patient and giving. Shirley loved animals and always had a pet. She loved to do yard and garden work and was known for having the most beautiful flowers around. She would rather be outside mowing the lawn than in the kitchen.
A private service will be attended by family and close friends and Shirley will be laid to rest beside her husband Ken at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Should you wish to pay tribute to Shirley, the family requests that in lieu of flowers you consider donating to the cancer research or support foundations of your choice in Shirley’s name.
