Sidney Allen Lyle, 78, of Odessa, went to be with his Lord and savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, September 1, 2016 in Odessa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00am Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home with Reverend Clydel Chapman and Reverend Johnny Witherspoon officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Sidney was born in Memphis, Tennessee to John Glen Lyle, Dr. and Ada Lucille Davis-Lyle on March 11, 1938. He married Patricia Dee Massey on August 30, 1965. She preceded him in death in 1996. He later married Billie Sue Clinton on December 28, 2001. Sid attended Odessa Jr College in Texas and Texas Tech University and earned a Masters of Arts degree from Liberty University. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and was honored to wear the blue as an Odessa Police Department Officer for 30 years. After retiring from the Odessa Police Department, he taught Criminal Justice courses at Odessa Junior College and he also worked for the criminal justice department. He currently was employed as a correction officer for a private federal detention center in Odessa. Sid was affiliated with the Baptist Church where he served in numerous capacities. He was most recently a member of the Northside Baptist Church.
Sid is preceded in death by his parents John Glen Lyle, Sr. and Ada Lucille Davis-Lyle and his brothers John Glen Lyle Jr., Robert Edward Lyle, and Jack Earl Lyle.
Sid is survived by his spouse Billie Lyle of Odessa, Texas, daughter Annie Smith and husband Gary of San Antonio, Texas, son Sidney A. Lyle Jr. of Fort Worth, Texas, and 6 grandchildren from his previous marriage. He is also survived by his step-son Terry Clinton and wife Malinda of Clovis, New Mexico, step-daughter Kathy Witherspoon and husband Johnny of Cooper, Texas, and 6 step-grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Garry, Matthew, Christopher and Scott Smith, Terry Clinton, Coley Johnson, and Stephen Coiley.
Memorials may be given to the Building Fund and/or the Annual Mission Offering at the Northside Baptist Church in Odessa, Texas.
