Stella Jo Ager, age 93, of Odessa, TX, passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2017 from complications of Alzheimer's Disease at Seabury Nursing Center.
Services will be at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel.
Jo, as she was known to family and friends, was born August 20, 1923 in Jayton, TX to Ira Oliver Lee and Myrtle Lee. Jo was the Valedictorian of her high school class. She lived in Jayton and other cities in Texas and Oklahoma but most of her life was in Odessa. She spoke of good times spent with her family and swimming in local rivers during her youth. She became a single mother of Carla Jo Simmons after her husband, Carl was killed in the Philippines during World War II. She was introduced to John Ager by his sister, Rosemary Ager. They were married and had another daughter, Marilyn Ager, and son, Brian Ager.
Jo spent most of her life caring for her home, her children and husband. She works in banking and in later years as a cafeteria worker for the Ector County School District.
She was active in the Church of Christ, known as a great singer, Sunday school teacher and cook. She spent her final years at Seabury Nursing Center where she was loved by staff and residents and enjoyed walking, sitting outside and dancing during music performances.
Jo is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and a brother; her first husband, Carl W. Simmons, her second husband, John F. Ager and her daughters, Carla Jo "Trixie" Wheeler and Marilyn Ager.
She is survived by her son, Brian K. Ager and wife Julie of Crownsville, MD; son in-law, Marcus Wheeler; 5 grandchildren, Carrie Wheeler Brown and Bruce Wheeler of Odessa, Wendy Wheeler Tevdovich of Arizona, Jolena and Madison Ager of Maryland, 8 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren. In addition there are 6 step grandchildren and 10 step great grandchildren by marriage.
