Sue Morris Hickman passed from this earth on January 2, 2016. Sue was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on November 10, 1928. She graduated from Monahan's High School in 1946. She attended Odessa College. She married Darrell Hickman on February 26, 1951 and had three sons.
Sue had a wonderful sense of humor and an adventurous spirit. She learned to fly her own plane when she was a teenager. She loved to travel, garden, hunt and fish. Fishing was her passion. She spent many days on the lake with her family, cat fishing with her children and grandchildren. She also loved going to the South Llano River where she learned how to canoe, kayak, inter tube and catch crawdads. Sue loved to cook for other people and often delivered baked goods to the elderly, charities, family and friends.
Sue was a 30 year volunteer staff member of the American Red Cross. She was presented with the "Volunteer Leadership Clara Barton Award". She was a volunteer for the Texas State Emergency Management and a member of the Ector County Emergency Planning and Response Committee and Volunteer Emergency Management of the Odessa Fire Department. She was a founding volunteer member of the Odessa Rape Crisis Center and a volunteer member of the Ronal Mc Donald House and Meals on Wheels.
Sue is preceded in death by her parents Ray and Frances Morris of Odessa, and her beloved husband Darrell Hickman also of Odessa.
She is survived by her three sons, Ray Hickman and wife Donna of Tulsa Oklahoma, Mike Hickman and wife Christi of Odessa Texas, and Don Hickman and wife Deanna of Houston Texas. Grandchildren include Brett Hickman, Spencer Hickman, Dustin Hickman, Jessica and husband Casey Holm, Holly Bowman and husband Phillip, Steven Hickman and wife Edie, Samantha Wimberley, Landon Wimberley and wife Jennifer, Phillip Garrison, Jacquelynn and husband Dr. Christopher Arnold, Kelsey Pipkins and Nicole Pipkins. Sue also leaves behind nine beautiful great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Sue will be remembered for her loving and caring ways, her even temperament, her commitment to the community and for volunteering for Red Cross natural disasters around the world.
For the last three years Sue lived at Brookdale Assisted living in Odessa. Our family would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the staff of Brookdale and for the love and care they provided her. During her stay Sue was an Ambassador of the facility and she met and came to love many friends. Sincere thanks to Arden Abbott who became her friend and sister in life and quickly became a member of our family.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 pm, Friday, January 8, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home.
A Memorial Service will be at 3:00 pm, Saturday, January 9, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church, 1401 N. Sam Houston, Odessa, TX.
