Susie Bernal

Susie G. Bernal, age 72, of Odessa, TX, earned her heavenly wings on Monday, March 6, 2023. She reunited with her late parents, Atadeo Gamez, Sr. and Hortnencia Lopez; her brothers, Atadeo Gamez, Jr. and Prajedes Gamez; and her husband, Steve T. Bernal.

Susie was born on September 30, 1950, in George West, Texas. she settled in Odessa, Texas, and graduated from Ector High School, where she met her loving husband Steve T. Bernal. They married October 16, 1969. Susie loved the Lord and shared Gods word to anyone she encountered. She taught Sunday school, led bible studies, and was very active in church. She enjoyed sewing, watching CSI and Law & Order, and attending all her kids and grandkids activities. She was our #1 fan.

No one will forget her cooking. She could make some of the best Menudo. The best bean and cheese burrito with homemade tortillas. She is one of the few women who could cook 8 to 10 fried eggs at the same time and not break one! Susie was the definition of “tough love”. She was a disciplined and stern, yet fair and loving woman. Her presence would command your respect, and she would open her arms and her home to those that needed it most. Susie will forever be cherished by many and respected by all. A strong willed, determined woman who never quit.

Susie is survived by her brother, Juan Perales (Jan); and sister, Joan Gamez. She was a loving mother to three daughters, Sonia Lopez (Fabian), Sophia Bernal (David), and Serena Landa; two sons; Steven M. Bernal (Lacey) and Samuel Bernal (Samantha); 14 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Steven M. Bernal, Samuel Bernal, Fabian Lopez, David Alvarez, Fabian Aguirre, Nel Velasco, Justin Lopez and Ethan Landa.

Honorary pallbearers will be Isaiah Bernal, Jaxon Bernal, Zechariah Landa, and Kai Bernal.

Visitation will be at 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Pastor Freddy Steen will be officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.

Family would like to thank the Medical Center Hospital ICU nurses, especially Tonya, Continue Care LTAC nurses, CNA, Amazing RT’S; especially charge nurse Tammy Marcom, and family and friends who fervently prayed.
