Terry Erwin

After a courageous battle with cancer, our beloved Terry Erwin was called to be with our Lord on October 30, 2016 in Odessa.

Terry was born on May 27, 1946 to Pete and Sue Erwin in Pontotoc, Oklahoma. He married Susan Lawhon in 1972. They spent 34 beautiful years together. Terry spent the first 17 years of his career working for Merchants Fast Motorlines. The last 20 years were held by the City of Odessa where he retired in 2007.

In his younger years Terry was quite a risk taker. He raced cars for several years at Twin Cities Speedway, where he was point champion in 1989 and runner up in 1990. As he calmed down in his later years he took up the lingo of the gambler playing pool and poker every chance he got. Terry enjoyed yard work and was well known for having the greenest yard on the block.

Terry is preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Sue Erwin; brother, Larry Dale Erwin; wife, Susan Erwin and his son, Jimmy Ray Erwin.

He is survived by his son, Bret Steel; daughter, Melissa Clanton and husband, Jared Clanton all of Odessa, TX; grandchildren, Austin Steel Richards of Gulf Breeze, Florida, Ashley Hartness, Braylin Bryant, Alexus Clanton, Triston Clanton, Cody Clanton, all of Odessa; great grandchildren, Ashtan Hartness, Zayvian Williams all of Odessa; brother, Mark Erwin; sister, Linda Tate, both of Odessa and his "little boy doggie" Studd Muffin and his companion Princess.

Terry was a man of few words who always had a listening ear. His memory will be cherished and never forgotten. He will be thought of every time the sun rises, the coffee is made and the earth smells of dew, for these were the things he loved most in the world… his early mornings, fresh cut grass and coffee with his family.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 pm, Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Johnny Touchtone officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
