Thelma Opal McCutchan McGaha passed away in Midland, TX, on April 4, 2017.
Thelma was born in Fisher County, near Hobbs,TX, on September 16, 1923 to Charlie Francis and Naomi Alice Campbell McCutchan. She graduated as valedictorian of her class at Hobbs High School and studied briefly at Texas Tech before going to work in Fisher County. Both she and Hilburn (Mac) McGaha worked at REA where they met and married in Roby, TX on February 8, 1947. Together they raised five children. In 1953, Thelma and Mac moved from Rotan, TX, to Odessa, where she resided until her health declined in 2016. As her deep love for God, family, and children took priority in life, she remained active in her church. At Belmont Baptist she taught 3-year olds in Sunday school, served as a deacon's wife, and was an intercessory prayer leader. Thelma worked in accounting for L. A. Talley and H&H Electric. Before retirement, she became a self-employed accountant.
She is preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Neta Joyce McCutchan Hinds Starnes and Leola Mae "Lee" McCutchan Kincaid.
She is survived by a son, Lester McGaha and his wife Valois of Odessa; four daughters, Deanna Wauhob and husband David of Midland, Norma McClane and husband Michael of Colorado City, Debbie Koonce and husband Jerry of Midland, and Marsha Munsell and husband Kenneth of Andrews; grandchildren Tosha (Patrick) Cooney, Jeana (Joe) Espinoza, Chris (Holly) McGaha, Scott (Amy) Wauhob, Todd (Jennifer) Wauhob, Clay (fiance Megan) Denny, Amber (Danny) Couch, and Ashley (Kevin) Barton. Thelma is also survived by 8 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to especially thank Oralia Gonzales, as well as the Hospice staff including Terri Parker and Paula Telford who cared for Thelma the past 8 months.
Funeral services are scheduled for Thelma McGaha at 1:00 pm, Monday, April 10, 2017 at Belmont Baptist Church in Odessa, with John McLemore officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
