Thelma Rae Simpkins, born October 15, 1931 in Roxton, Texas to Jim and Bertha White Baer passed away August 1, 2017 at the age of 85 at Medical Center Hospital due to complications from COPD and Pneumonia.
Family viewing will be Friday, August 4, 2017 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home from 6 to 8 pm.
Funeral Services will be at 1:00 pm, Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Thelma married George Ray Simpkins September 17, 1951 in Texarkana Ark. She was a devoted homemaker. She played basketball in high school and was raised on her family's cotton farm. She loved hearing all about what her grand kids were doing from softball, bowling, racing and swimming. She loved to watch the moon rise and watching the Texas Rangers play ball.
Thelma is preceded in death by her husband, George, both parents, Jim and Bertha Baer; 2 brother's, Wayne Baer and Larry Baer; 1 sister, Betty Burnsed; 2 son in-laws, Dan Moore and Terry Babcock.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Shirley Babcock, Sandi Vaught and husband, Gary; 4 grandchildren, Amy Pattillo and Ken Beauford, Toni Price and husband Shannon, Shawn Vaught, Travis Vaught and Becky Roberts; 1 brother, Max Baer and Wife Jo; 2 sisters, Wilma Dunn and Peggy Wishard and husband Gerald; sister in-laws Donna Baer, Martha Simpkins, Neil Belz; brother in-laws Don Peavey, Howard McKay; great grandchildren, Tyler Pattillo, Taylor Pattillo, Tyan Rankin, Austin Price, Alexis and Bailey Stoneman, Chase and Mason Beauford.
Arrangements are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.
