Thomas Davis

Thomas Aubrey Davis died peacefully on Monday, June 7, 2010 in Odessa, Texas after a brief illness.

The Lord is my shepherd, I have everything I need

He is survived by Dorothy, his wife of 54 years, and his youngest daughter Terry Ann Davis Unruh, her husband Terry Unruh and their three sons Bryant Davis Unruh, Bradley Thomas Unruh, and Brent Aubrey Unruh. Tom was preceded by his daughter Mary Diane Davis.

Tom had been reared in Itasca, Texas by his mother, Hazel McCullough Davis, and his maternal grandparents after his father Horace Mastin Davis had been killed on a naval vessel in action during WWII. All of his relatives and friends in his hometown were instrumental in his childhood and athletic achievements, preparing him for a lifetime of his chosen fields of coaching and education.

Tom was a graduate of North Texas University. His first teaching assignment was in Odessa at Cameron Elementary. His 32 years of influencing young minds and bodies took him from Cameron to Crockett, Jr. High and then to Hood Jr. High where he was a history teacher, grade level counselor, and eventually Dean of Students. Through these years he was known as a friend to students.

Toms years of retirement were filled with his great passions. First, he enjoyed watching his three grandsons grow into young manhood. He and Dorothy appreciated their home, their many friendships, their church, their time shared on the golf course, and of course his love of his old cars.


Visitation with the family will be 67 PM Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Memorial services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Thursday, June 10, 2010 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, with Bob Sams officiating. His family invites each of you to come and worship with them and appreciate the memories they had shared.
