US ARMY Lt. Col. (Ret.) Thomas Michael Dutko passed away on August 31, 2018 in Odessa, TX at the age of 75.
Thomas was born January 17, 1943 in Johnstown, PA. He graduated from Ferndale High School in 1960. In 1964, he received a Bachelor of Arts in History at Washington & Jefferson University. In 1974, he received a Master's degree in Social Studies from Rutgers University and in 1992 received a Master's degree in History from UTPB.
Thomas served 21 years in the United States Army Infantry, which included two Vietnam campaign tours. He was awarded the Purple Heart of Valor, Silver and Bronze Star. He retired from the military in 1985. Thomas taught JROTC, government, economics and history at Odessa High School, Permian High School and Odessa College, until his retirement in 2005.
Thomas was a generous individual, who loved his family and was passionate about his country, history, astronomy, aeronautics and education. He will be missed dearly.
Thomas is preceded in death by his father, Michael Dutko and his mother, Mary Dutko.
He is survived by his loving wife, Maria Teresa Dutko; sons, Robert and wife Olivia Dutko, Thomas Dutko; sister, Shirley Elaine Dutko; and grandsons, Brooks and Bruin Dutko.
Rosary will be at 7:00 pm on Wednesday September 5, 2018 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Chapel.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church with Father Mark officiating.
Burial will be at Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio at a later date.
