Tommy Lee Kennedy

With the gentle demeanor and Christlike nature that defined his character, Tommy Lee Kennedy passed from this earthly life on August 7, 2012, at the age of 82.

Tommy was born April 17, 1930, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to Javus R. Kennedy and Stella Amanda White Kennedy.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy.

Tommy married Martha in 1960. The couple raised their three children in Odessa, where Tommy worked in sales for Duro Test and HH Lighting.

Tommy was a longtime member of Sixth and Jackson Church of Christ. He served as a Bible class discussion leader and welcomed the opportunity to participate in the worship service. His thoughtful presentation of Scripture and heartfelt prayers were both uplifting and comforting, as were his personal home visits. Tommy was dearly loved, and he will be dearly missed.

Tommy is survived by his wife, Martha Kennedy son Clay and wife Diana Kennedy of Midland, Texas daughter Donna and husband Crespin Dominguez of Odessa, Texas daughter Gina and husband Ben Olivarez of Kingwood, Texas sister Christine Barker of Odessa grandchildren Ryan Kennedy, Cade Kennedy, Lauren Olivarez, Karli Olivarez, Amber Dominguez and Blake Dominguez and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family will be 68 p.m. Thursday, August 9, 2012, at Sunset Funeral Home. The funeral service will take place Friday, August 10, 2012, beginning at 2 p.m. at Sixth and Jackson Church of Christ with Shawn Miller officiating. Allen Cason, Gene Chandler, Richard Garner, Tuffy Locke, Randy McVey and Charles Reeves will serve as pallbearers.

Tommy was blessed with the gift of encouragement, which he used in turn to bless others. Always quick to offer a warm expression or words of genuine kindness, Tommy lived his faith and inspired his friends and family to do the same.

I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for His appearing. 2 Timothy 4:78.
