Tommy Pugh

December 21, 1932 — July 31, 2017

Tommy U. Pugh passed from this life into his eternal home with our Lord on July 31, 2017. "Mick or Mickey" as he was known by all who knew him was born in Mangum, Oklahoma on December 21, 1932 to Tom and Ethel Pugh.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Othal and sister, Opal Pugh Friend. Mick married his childhood sweetheart of 67 years, Billie Jo Bowen Pugh and they moved to west Texas to make a living in the oil fields. They lived in Odessa over 51 years and after retirement moved to Grandview, TX.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Billie; sons, Tommy Joe and wife Carol of Odessa, TX, Bobby Gene of Grandview, TX; daughters, Carol Pugh of Grandview, TX, Ann Pugh Sparks and husband, Mike of Odessa, TX and Jan Pugh of Odessa, TX; grandchildren, Terra Pugh Radtke and Charlie Bianco of Wisconsin, Julie Pugh Huckabay and husband, Blake of Midland, TX, Brandon Pugh and Jackie Shriver of Odessa, TX, Bowen Pugh of Grandview, TX, Aslyn Pugh Aguilar of Houston, TX, Amberly Sparks Healer and husband, Mitchell of Midland, TX, Ashley Sparks Paz and husband Bubba of Odessa, TX, Matthew Sparks of Odessa, TX and eleven great grandchildren.

At a very early age, on the farm, he was plowing with mules, experiencing the love of horses, the bonds of his favorite dog, and the excitement of working with cows. Those experiences stayed with him as an adult. He was a natural on a horse and loved showing off his Peruvian Paso in the show ring, plowing his garden on his beloved tractor and treating his dogs as if human. As a young kid, when his mom saw him riding in on his horse with something tucked under his shirt, she knew he had found a stray puppy! She would help him bathe and de-flea the puppy and he had a new friend and playmate. He never outgrew that love for dogs.

Mick was an extremely hard worker and always needed something to keep him busy, outside of course. Most all knew him as a big tease, always kept something going on at work, pulling pranks on co-workers. His boss and friend, nic-named him cotton-picking agitator. He loved the joke's he'd pull on people, but he could also get a good laugh when someone would put one over on him.

As a young man, Mick gave his heart to the Lord Jesus, always had a very tender heart towards the Lord, but he could never express those feelings without crying, so few witnessed that side of him. He loved his music, country, bluegrass, the old gospel hymns and often expressed himself through the lyrics with tears rolling down his face.

Hank Williams' song, "I Saw The Light" was how he would have expressed his "coming to Jesus moment". John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life"-and 2 Corinthians 5:6-7-"Now He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee. Therefore we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord"- gave him assurance of a home in Heaven. He knew there is power in the blood because of his own experience. 2 Corinthians 5:21-"For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him".
