Vanna Lou Wortham, born October 5, 1928 in Roby, TX, went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 18, 2015 in Odessa, TX. She was 87 years old.
Vanna Lou met her husband the love of her life, Byron Wortham in Stephenville, TX where they attended Tarleton State University. They were later married in Odessa on September 14, 1949. They shared 66 years of marriage. She was a devoted wife, loving caring mother and grandmother.
Vanna Lou had a strong unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. She was an active member of Belmont Baptist Church for over 65 years. She was driven by her faith and love for helping others. Her greatest joy was giving her four children a Christian foundation to face life with love, honesty and responsibility.
Vanna Lou was a proud and active member of Beta Sigma Phi for over 61 years. She held every office and received every award offered by the sorority during her membership. She was the Chairman for Odessa's First Lady Tea for many years and was responsible for many charitable fundraisers. She loved her sorority sisters and the opportunity to give back to the community. She held the office of president for the Odessa City Council and Odessa Women's Forum and volunteered for the Odessa Milk Council and Meals on Wheels programs.
Vanna Lou is preceded in death by her parents, Bluitt and Tennie Mae Crow, sister, Virginia Ann Perry, grandson, Byron Briscoe Monahan and many so many others she loved so dearly.
She is survived by her loving husband, Byron Wortham, two daughters, Jamie Monahan of Odessa and Leslie Woodfin of Wharton, two sons, Richard Wortham and his wife, Pam of Leander, Mike Wortham and his wife, Jana of Forney, four grandchildren, Lindsey and her husband, Heath Hines of Cedar Park, Erin Wortham of Pflugerville and Casey and Dalton Woodfin of College Station, four great grandchildren, Aubree Monahan, Hayden, Cooper and Hallie Hines as well as many friends and extended family.
The family wishes to especially thank Dr. Raja Naidu, Tiffany Vaught, PA, the nursing staff at Medical Center Hospital, Deering's Nursing Home and Home Hospice for their extraordinary care.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 pm, Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at Belmont Baptist Church with Reverend John McLemore officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens at 6801 East Business 20, in Odessa.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Belmont Baptist Children's Department at 1200 W. 8th St. Odessa, TX 79763.
