Velma Pauline Polly Leon Denton, age 88, passed away Sunday, October 31, 2010 in Odessa.

She was born July 27, 1922 in Haskell, Texas to Clarence Edward Leon and Nora Myrtle Cloud Leon.

Visitation with the family will be 57PM Tuesday, November 2, 2010 in Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at St. Lukes United Methodist Church with Rev. Russell Parchman officiating. Burial will be at Rule Texas in the family plot, at 1:00 PM Thursday November 4, 2010.

She graduated from Rotan High School, attended MaryHardin Baylor and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in speech and drama.

She married Edward Buck Denton in Spur, Texas. They celebrated their 59th anniversary this month. Mrs. Denton taught elementary grades in the Texas and New Mexico public schools for nearly four decades: Odessa, at Gonzalez Elementary, Jayton and Rotan.

She was an active member in the United Methodist Church wherever she lived, and directed many pageants, Christmas and Easter programs. Polly had a special gift of hospitality, preparing meals and hosting family and friends without ceasing. Polly had an upbeat, positive personality that was contagious to all those around her. People loved to be with her. Her family acknowledges that she was the perfect wife, mother, motherinlaw, grandmama, aunt and cousin.

Mrs. Denton is survived by her husband E.D. Buck Denton, two sons and their wives, Chris Edward Denton and Jennie of Nice, France and Mark Cloud Denton and Brenda of Odessa grandchildren, Claire Patricia DentonIngersoll and husband Jarred of Denver, Colorado, Mark Austin Denton and wife Isela of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Brock Edward Denton of Houston, Ty Cloud Denton and wife Janine of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Mason Williams Denton and wife Miriam of St. Louis, Missouri, Kirsten Danielle Denton of Odessa and great grandchild, Adalyn Jade Denton Brotherinlaw, John Barnhart of Berclair Cousins, Leon Weaver of La Paz, California, Larry Weaver of Oregon, Madge Leon Moore of Las Vegas, Nevada, Barbara Leon Scheef of Lubbock, Linda Leon Zachary of Denton, Sibyl Jackson Rappe of El Paso, Carol Ann Leon Midkiff and husband T.O. of Midkiff, Sandra Leon Roberts and husband Square of Abilene, Elizabeth Geer Spain and husband Sidney of Tyler, Joanne Cloud Craig and husband Mickey of Hillsdale, Michigan, James Cloud of Rule and Dennis Cloud and wife Beth of Chicago, Illinois Nieces, Sally Blackshear Hucks of Chesterfield, Virginia, Amanda Blackshear of Dallas, Claire Barnhart of Berclair, Gina Barnhart of Denver, Colorado Nephews Jay Barnhart of Houston and Joe Barnhart of Houston.

Mrs. Denton was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Mildred Leon Blackshear and Virginia Leon Barnhart.

Pallbearers will be grandchildren Claire Patricia DentonIngersoll, Mark Austin Denton, Brock Edward Denton, Ty Cloud Denton, Mason Williams Denton, and Kirsten Danielle Denton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
