Verna Lee Chambers, 85, of Odessa passed away, Tuesday, January 20, 2015 surrounded by her family in her home in Odessa.
Verna Lee was born November 2, 1929 in Wichita, Kansas to Claude and Vernie Simmons. Her education started at age four in a rural country school. She then went to school in Avard, Oklahoma until her sophomore year when the family moved to Waynoka, Oklahoma. She was sad when the family moved to Waynoka because she could no longer play basketball. Verna Lee graduated from Waynoka High School at the age of 16.
Verna Lee met Floyd Chambers when he returned from World War II. They married in Medicine Lodge, Kansas June 30, 1946. They had three children; Janet, Alan and Monte.
Verna Lee loved all sports. She loved watching whatever sport was being played on television, with her grandchildren. Verna Lee was a life master bridge player. There would always be a "special game". She received a fifty year service award from Medical Center Hospital ladies auxiliary. Verna Lee was a loving caregiver. Above all she loved her family. Any time a member of her family was sick or needed help she would be right there. She was so proud of her grandchildren and their accomplishments. She would brag on them any chance she had. She also loved her great-grandchildren.
Waiting to greet her in heaven are her husband, Floyd Chambers, parents, Claude and Vernie Simmons, siblings, Clara Bell Brock, Burl Simmons, Nettie Mae Koutz, Maxine Hale, and Robert Simmons.
She is survived by her children; Janet Nance (Jack) Odessa, TX, Alan Chambers (Vicki) Dallas, TX, and Monte Chambers, Austin, TX; grandchildren, Kasey Nance (Kristi) Odessa, TX, Darin Nance, Marfa, TX, Ali Smith (Trent) Dallas, TX, Haylee Smith, Austin, TX, and Eric Chambers (Liz) Dallas, TX; four great-grandchildren, Kamden Nance, Odessa, TX, Nick and Eli Smith, Austin, TX, Ava Smith Dallas TX; and another great-grandson due to be born any day now.
Verna is also survived by siblings; Junior Simmons (Marge) of Enid Oklahoma; Louise Whitney (Everett) Waynoka, Oklahoma, Donald Simmons, Freedom, Oklahoma, Paul Simmons (Velma) Carlsbad, New Mexico, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation is 6:00pm to 8:00 pm Thursday, January 22, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home. Funeral Services are on Friday, January 23, 2015 at 10:00 am at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Kristofer Gardana officiating.
