Viola Melendez passed away peacefully on Monday, March 10, 2025, in Odessa, Texas.
Visitation will begin from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with a Recitation of the Rosary at 6:00 PM on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 2:00 PM on Monday, March 17, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are made by Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.
Viola was born on September 16, 1955, in Pecos, Texas, to Andrea and Eduardo Melendez Sr. She graduated from Ector High School and soon began working at Ector County ISD, where she dedicated herself to serving students and valued her friendships with coworkers until her retirement. Viola never met a stranger and had a passion for shopping. She loved her children and grandchildren “to the moon and back."
She is preceded in death by her parents, Andrea and Eduardo Melendez Sr.; brothers, Eduardo Melendez Jr. and Jonell Melendez; and nephew, Jeremy Ross Sturgeon.
Viola is survived by her sons, Mylo Spencer and his wife Anabel, and Orlando Spencer and his wife Mary; daughter, Nadia Thompson and her husband Matthew; her four granddaughters, Saralyn, Scarlett, Vivian, and Katherine Rose; three grandsons, Dax, Spencer, and Ledger; sisters, Mary Jane Melendez and Aurora Chavez and her husband Ray Chavez. Viola cherished her nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be, Jarod Ray Chavez, Jason Chavez, Jerome Leija, Santiago Leija, Jeremiah Leija, and Zechariah Leija.
