Viola Marie Pittman, age 79, of Odessa, was called home to be with her Lord on Thursday, December 9, 2010. She was blessed to be home with her loving family and friends when she passed.
She was a person of honor and integrity, full of grace and a calming force for all who knew and loved her.
Marie was born in Blackburn, Oklahoma on July 31, 1931. She later moved with her family to Escalon, California, then on to San Francisco where she would meet and fall in love with her husband, Homer Pittman. The two married in Van Horn, Texas on September 23, 1948. She was a devoted wife and mother to her two girls, Connie and Pam, and an amazing grandmother, affectionately called Mama Ri. She worked in the retail clothing business from 1970 until 1983, and the last six of those years being spent as the owner of Ann Lee Sportswear in Midland, Texas.
Marie was a member of the Eastern Star, and enjoyed playing the piano and singing hymns in her younger days. She was quite a good cook, and always made sure she made everyones favorite when people came to visit. Her famous chocolate cream pie and chicken noodles are legendary She enjoyed canning jellies and preserves and was always available to help her friends with the occasional perm or quick hair makeover.
She took great pride in her family. She and Homer are best known for their selflessness and willingness to serve others. Both Marie and Homer were always the first to come to the aid of those in need, whether it was caring for their daughters during medical crises, or being there for a friend or relative in times of need. Marie was a trusted friend and confidant to all who knew her. She never asked for or expected anything in return. She was truly the epitome of a Christian and lived by Gods golden rule, never doubting her faith or the path God laid before her.
She is survived by her husband, Homer Pittman, her daughter and soninlaw, Connie and Bob Ramsey, of Irving, TX daughter and soninlaw, Pam and Gene Burkhaulter, of Odessa, TX four grandchildren: Lunda Ramsey Romeo, of Salem, MA, Ruthi Ramsey Caldwell, of Honolulu, HI, Matthew Burkhaulter, and Braden Burkhaulter, both of Odessa brother, Melvin Knight, of Sacramento, California.

Marie was an inspiration to all and we will all feel lost without her. We love her and we will miss her warmth, her smile and most of all, her kind and giving heart.
