Walter Leon “Skip” Chorney passed away December 18, 2021, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loved ones.
Walter Leon Chorney was born in Elmira, NY on August 11, 1946, to Walter Chorney and Katherine Proko Chorney.
He graduated from Thomas A. Edison High School in 1964, then attended Corning Community College until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1967. He served in Vietnam for 18 months and was then assigned to Ft. Dix, NJ, where he was promoted to Captain. Skip married the love of his life, Andrea Pradon, on May 9, 1970. They welcomed their daughters at Ft. Dix, NJ, then moved to Ft. Lee, VA. They were then assigned to Ft. Carson, CO, where they welcomed their twin sons. A short time later, they were assigned to Wiesbaden, Germany.
During his service, he was awarded Medals for Meritorious Service, Humanitarian Service, National Defense Service, Armed Forces Reserve, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Vietnam Service, Vietnam Campaign, three overseas Service Bars, and the Bronze Star. Upon retiring, he earned his rank of Major in the Army Reserves.
In 1979, Skip and Andrea moved their family to Odessa, Texas, in which he enjoyed a long career in industrial electrical distribution, retiring from WESCO Distribution in 2017.
Skip and Andrea are longtime members of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, where they actively worship.
Skip was known for his strong work ethic, his kindness, and that he always had a smile on his face. Skip never met a stranger, he loved Mojo football, but especially loved attending and supporting his children and grandchildren in all their endeavors.
Skip is survived by his wife of 51 years, Andrea; daughter, Kristine Brookshire (Walt Tonge); sons, Benjamin (Rebecca), and Kevin (Tammy); grandchildren, Zach Brookshire (Ashley), Jacob Brookshire (Mayson), Danielle Singleton (Jacob), Brittany Chorney, Meghan Chorney, Tanner and Andy Wilson, Rylan and Kolson Chorney, and Brooks Tonge; great granddaughter, Emersyn Singleton; brothers, Robert Chorney, and Mark Chorney (Lorraine) of Elmira, NY; brother-in-law, John Pradon (Debbie) of Horseheads, NY; and many nieces and nephews. Special mention of our Pradon Family of Odessa, TX, and Troy Wilson of Ft. Worth.
Skip is preceded in death by his parents, Walter, and Katherine Chorney; brother, Vincent; daughter, Jessica; and granddaughter, Katherine.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday 29, 2021 with Rosary at 10:00 AM, and Mass at 11:00 AM, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Father Giusseppe Barbieri and Father Mark Woodruff will be co-celebrating the Mass.
