Warren Houston Young was born in Pool Community of Terry County, Brownfield, Texas on April 17, 1931 to Hubert Lee and Ethel Mullins Young.
He started school at age seven, going to the Pool school until third grade, when it closed; he transferred to Meadow schools, graduating in 1949. In high school he participated in basketball, track, football and FFA. After graduation he worked on the family farm. In 1951, he produced the first bale of dry land cotton and that same year he was named Terry County Farmer of the Year.

On November 22, 1957 he married Mary Nell Rosamond, a single mother of two children, Linda Gail and Ricky Don, whom he adopted and raised as his own; two more children were born to this union, Michael Alan and Sherry Beth.
In August 1961, he was promoted to oiler at the Goldsmith El Paso Plant, where he spent the next 29 years. While at Goldsmith, he was active in the United Methodist Church, Little League, and Boy Scouts. He also worked part-time for Pat McClellan and the City of Goldsmith.
In 1986, he was transferred to Coyanosa, worked a while, then he was transferred temporarily to Puckett Plant, that plant sold in 1990, so he went back to Coyanosa before retiring in June 1990. After retirement, he worked renovating houses, retired again, moved to Lake Whitney for five years, then back to Odessa working for Cashway Lumber and Premier Parking.
