Odessa businessman, Robert Wayne Darville, age 81, was called home, Monday, September 15, 2014 surrounded by his family at Orchard Park of Odessa.
A celebration of Waynes life will be held at 2:00pm Friday, September 19, 2014 in the chapel at Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home with Bud Cagle officiating with interment to follow. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 68pm on Thursday, September 18, 2014 in the Sunset Room.
Wayne was born October 10, 1932 in Tampa, Florida. In 1945, when he was 13, he moved to Odessa with his family. He graduated from Odessa High School and was a graduate of Texas AM, class of 1954. After graduating from Texas AM, Wayne joined the Air Force serving as a maintenance engineer on the F102,104,105 and 106 jet air craft at Edwards Air Force Base in California reaching the rank of Captain in the reserves.
Waynes father, John Darville, started Odessa Sheet Metal in 1947, later becoming Odessa Sheet Metal and Refrigeration. When John died in 1963, Wayne took over the business, added plumbing, and changed the name to The Darville Company.
He was an active lifetime member of the Odessa Optimist Club with perfect attendance for 50 years. Wayne served as North Texas District Governor, as well as many local offices. He served as a board member for the Better Business Bureau and PAL.
Wayne married LaVon Johnson on February 19, 1960. They have celebrated 54 years together. Every year on their anniversary, Wayne would give LaVon roses, one for each year of marriage. The last few years, three vases were needed to hold them all. They have 3 children, Mark Darville, Dana Darville Johnson and Amy Darville Deans, 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.Wayne is also survived by three sisters, Marilyn Fannin, Darla Darville and Marsha Darville Scott.
