OBITUARY FOR WAYNE SCOTT
Wayne Scott left his earthly body to enter Heaven on January 15, 2017 with his beloved wife of 54 years and his family at his side. Wayne was born to Bert and Lola Scott on February 13, 1941 in Tryon, Oklahoma. He had four siblings: Bertalene Richardson of Marlow, Oklahoma and deceased brothers and sisters, Melvin Scott, Bruce Scott and Peachie Shoemaker. He spent his early years in Oklahoma with his brother Melvin as the "Great Scotts" legend of the 1959 state football championship. Having broken numerous sporting records, During high school, Wayne was an avid track, basketball, and football star, was on the All State Football team, and went on to play football at Texas Tech. In 1963 Wayne married his high school sweetheart, Charleen Gaston, and moved to Odessa, Texas, where he raised three beautiful daughters, Christi, Shayne and Tracy. He was employed in 1964 by two Moore brothers who had an automotive business in their garage, and he spent the next 50 plus years moving from that small garage to a large, successful industrial business. Wayne was honored to be President of AIP Products, Inc. He was known as a quiet employer, mentor and leader who honored the value of everyone who came into his life. He lived the kind of life that is exemplary of a good and faithful servant, always working for a CAUSE and not APPLAUSE. He was a church officer at Westminster Presbyterian Church, taught Sunday School, and served numerous community organizations including High Noon Optimist and Odessa College Track. His service as President of the Permian Basin Planning Commission brought business awareness to the Permian Basin. He and his wife, Charle, were instrumental in building Hope House, the home-away-from-home lodging facility for patients who are in cancer treatment. Many cancer patients have found hope in the darkness because of Wayne and Charle's vision and generosity.
Wayne's claim to fame was being the family patriarch. His love for his children and grandchildren was only surpassed by his passion for and devotion to his wife. He built a family dynasty that was founded on deep abiding love, faith in Jesus Christ, mutual respect, and daily humor. He never missed a birthday or a special event without homemade cards or original poetry. Wayne was the ultimate caretaker and he opened his home to aging parents, friends in need, and anyone who needed a hug or a bed for the night. He loved golf and football, but his real hobby was being with friends and family. Winning in the Saturday golf game was only secondary to the love and laughter that he and his friends shared.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Charle, daughters Christi Brown and Shayne Adcock, and husband Rodney Adcock. Five grandchildren include Dr. Jordan Brown Beall and husband Taylor, Madison Brown, Jay T. and Kye Adcock and fiancé Michelle Campbell, all of Odessa, and Hayden Brown of San Marcos. Other surviving members of Wayne's family are first son-in-law Robby Brown, sister-in-law Penny and husband Bob Hart of Southfork, CO and brother-in-law Lyndell Shoemaker of Wichita, KS, many nieces and nephews and special longtime friends. Daughter Tracy D'Anne Dickerson, together with his parents Bert and Lola Scott and Gordon and Doris Gaston, and his siblings welcomed Wayne in a glorious reunion at the gates of Heaven.
