Wendy Lynn Hines, age 59, of Odessa, TX, was called home to her loving Lord and Savior on April 19th, in Odessa.
Born October 8, 1957 to Ray Eldon Braswell and Jackie (McClellan) Braswell in Monahans, Tx, Wendy dedicated her life as an educator to the community. Her commitment to continuing education will be remembered as her legacy and her influence will remain evident into the future for Odessa and its residents.
Wendy attended Odessa High School where she practiced and tutored majorette's dance. After graduating fifth in her class in 1976, Wendy married the love of her life, Larry Hines, on May 20, 1977 and raised two children, Brandy and Larry Jr. She attended both Odessa College and the University of Texas of the Permian Basin, receiving her degree as an educator. August of 1979 marked the beginning of her accomplished and distinguished career, touching so many of our lives. She started her career as a 2nd grade teacher at Goliad Elementary, moving to Cameron Elementary in 1983. Earning her Master's Degree in Educational Administration from UTPB in 1985 and becoming a teacher appraiser in 1987, her role became more administrative. In 1990 she became the program director for Zavala Magnet Elementary School, and moved on to become the principal at both San Jacinto Elementary School in 1993 and Cameron Elementary School in 1999. Under her guidance, Cameron Elementary School was recognized as a Blue Ribbon School, highlighting her dedication to exceptional and outstanding education for the children of our community. Becoming the Executive Director of Elementary Operations and ultimately the Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Schools in 2006, Wendy's 38 years of achievements as an educator with ECISD will be recognized as she is awarded the Superintendent's Extra Mile Award, accenting an exemplary commitment to the community.
Wendy is preceded in death by her grandson, Christopher Cosby.
She is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Larry Hines; parents, Ray and Jackie Braswell; son, Larry Hines Jr. and wife Virginia; daughter Brandy Ham and husband Jeremy; grandchildren Serenity Ferguson, Emma Ferguson, Blake Ham, and Bailey Ham; sister, Virginia Abbott and husband Danny; brothers, Robert Braswell and wife Karen, and Ray Braswell Jr. and wife Cydney.
Please join Wendy's family and friends for visitation between 6 and 8pm Friday, April 28, 2017, and in remembrance and services at 10am, Saturday, April 29, 2017.
