William Ellis Buddie Johnson was born November 15, 1925 in El Dorado, TX. to Mary Anna Keithly Johnson and Ira Johnson. He attended schools in San Angelo and Kermit. Buddie would have graduated from Kermit High School in May, but in March 1944, he went into the service to help fight World War II. Buddie was inducted into the U.S. Navy in San Diego, California on March 25, 1944. He was a Seaman First Class stationed in Hawaii.
He was honorably discharged on Jan. 8, 1946 in San Francisco, California. In February 1946, Buddie started San Angelo Business College and worked for his Dad at Johnsons Glass and Cabinet Shop. This was the beginning of a lifetime love of wood work.
Buddie met the love of his life, Nubye Juanita Casey, in San Angelo in August 1946. They were married on November 16, 1946. To this union was born a son, Donald Wayne, and a daughter, Linda Dianne. In 1952, Buddie went to work for Amerada Hess, and lived and worked in several different places, the last being Ft. Pierce, Florida. The family returned to Texas in January 1955, and Buddie went to work for Dowell in Kermit, where the children started and graduated schools. In 1973, Buddie was transferred to Andrews. He and Nubye lived in Andrews until 1977 when they moved to Gardendale. Buddie continued working for Dowell in Andrews, then Midland. Buddie retired from Dowell in 1984. After retiring, Buddie indulged his hobbies of gardening and working with wood. They always shared the bounty of their huge garden with family and friends. Buddie also made numerous pieces furniture. He was always trying some new pattern. He gave many of his beautiful furniture pieces to his daughter and granddaughter. He made special child toys for his great-granddaughters. He also made hundreds of birdhouses. He loved making and giving away birdhouses. Buddie loved the LORD with all his heart and early on set his course in life to give honor and glory to Jesus Christ, to put God first, family second, then everything else. Buddie was an ordained deacon and a member of the Body of Christ. Buddie was a wonderful, loving and supportive husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Buddie departed this life and graduated to Heaven to spend eternity with his Creator, Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on May 27, 2009.
