William Porter

September 5, 1932 — November 9, 2016

William Ben Porter (Dub), age 84, of Odessa, TX, went to be with the Lord on November 9, 2016 in Odessa.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 pm, Friday, November 11, 2016 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Graveside Services will be at 2:00 pm, Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Cross Cut Cemetery, Hwy 279 South, Cross Cut, TX, with Reverend Ronnie White officiating.

William Ben Porter was born on September 5, 1932 to Ben U. and Elsie (Harris) Porter in Burkett, TX. He graduated high school in 1950 in Cross Plains, TX. He was drafted into the United States Army on October 17, 1952. He served honorably until his discharge on August 4, 1954. He received the Korean Service Medal, 2 Bronze Stars, UN Service Medals, National Defense Service Medals and a Good Conduct Medal.

He married Gatha Melton on January 19, 1960 in Cross Plains, TX. They remained married until her untimely death on April 2, 2001. He spent his career working in the oilfield as a driller.

Dub enjoyed reading, watching sports, spending time with his family. He never missed a practice or soccer game of Zac and Sydney's. He was awarded Best Fan Award from Permian High School Soccer Booster Club in 2005.
Dub really enjoyed Saturday morning breakfast with his best buddy Curtis Lewallen. He never met a stranger and truly loved meeting and talking to people.

Dub is preceded in death by his loving wife of 41 years, Gatha Porter; parents, Elsie and Ben Porter; siblings, Tommy Porter and Betty Baxter.

He is survived by his children, Cheryl (Porter) Lewallen and her husband David Lewallen of Odessa, Dwight Porter and his wife Tina, Triney Porter of Oronoco, Minnesota, David Porter and his wife Nancy of Weatherford, TX; grandchildren, Savannah (Porter) Brookshire and husband Dustin Brookshire of Odessa, Zac Enriquez and wife Krissy Enriquez of Odessa, Sydney Enriquez Lyle and husband Brandon Lyle of Odessa, Matthew Porter and wife Haley, Michael Porter of Houston, TX; great grandchildren, Hannah Enriquez of Odessa, Kinslee and Madlynn Lyle of Odessa, Matthew Brandon Porter and wife Jessica Porter of Denver, CO; sister, Bonnie Illinsworth of Iowa Park, TX; brother, Billy Porter and wife Judy Porter of Cross Plains, TX and numerous nieces and nephews of Iowa Park and Cross Plains, TX.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Reverend Dr. Jimmy Braswell and Home Hospice and the nursing staff on the 9th floor at Medical Center Hospital.

Memorials may be given to Home Hospice or First Baptist Music Ministry of Odessa.
