William "Doug" Whitefield

William Douglas Whitefield, of Odessa, passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, in Odessa, Texas at the age of 86.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, January 29, 2022, at First United Methodist Church, in Odessa, Texas.

William Douglas Whitefield, known as Doug by his close friends and loved ones, was born in Wink, Texas to Cleo and Clifton Whitefield on May 21, 1935.  He came from humble beginnings growing up in Loco Hills, New Mexico.  He went to Artesia High School.  He was an accomplished athlete playing both tennis and football.  Doug won the New Mexico State doubles championship title in tennis in 1951 as a sophomore.  In addition, Doug also won the singles championship title in 1952.  He attended The University of New Mexico on a football scholarship.

Doug married the love of his life Esther Kay Ingram, on October 1, 1955, in Artesia, New Mexico.  They have been married for 65 years.  He was an extraordinary salesman throughout his working career.  He worked in sales for the oil and gas industry for over 40 years.  He spent time in The National Guard, reaching the rank of 2nd Lieutenant.  Doug was an avid golfer and hunter, who enjoyed spending his free time on the golf course with his close friends and family.  He was a member of First United Methodist Church and loved his Sunday School group.  He was light-hearted and an avid joke teller, and he loved to meet up with his close friends at the American Legion.  He loved his family more than anything and loved spending time with them and attending all the activities involving his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  Doug was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend who was loved by all and will be missed dearly.

Doug is preceded in death by his parents, Cleo and Clifton Whitefield, his sister Minta Whitaker, his brother Bobby Whitefield and his parent-in-laws Alma and Roy Ingram.

Doug is survived by his loving wife, Kay Whitefield, his son and his wife, Mike and Glenda Whitefield, his daughter and her husband, Suzette and Matt Furst, his grandchildren, Shanna and Dusty Sanders, Jeremy and Jennie Whitefield, Maggie and Logan Hargrove, Emily Furst, and Abigail Furst, his great grandchildren, Wyatt Ross, Hunter Sanders, Wesley Whitefield, Emma Whitefield, Elliot Hargrove, and Jack Hargrove.

Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church, The American Lung Association, The American Heart Association, or a charity of your choice.
