Winona was born August 29, 1930 to Paul and Dessie Fritts in Wichita, Kansas, but grew up in Topeka along with two brothers and three sisters. She attended high school in Amarillo, Texas, when her family moved there for Paul's work. After attending Harding Christian College she returned to Kansas to work for the Kansas Highway Patrol.
Moving to Denver, Colorado, to pursue a career with United Airlines, Nona met Keith Armstrong at a church service. Even while sitting behind her, he could tell how beautiful she was and "just had to meet her". After a brief courtship, they were married and their union lasted until his death 58 years later.
Keith's work took them to Southern California, where Nona worked for the engineering company, C.F. Braun. In the summer of 1962, Keith and Nona moved to Odessa, Texas to open Armstrong's A&W restaurant. They later owned a Baskin Robbins franchise and built Runway 7 Food Store and Mobile Home Park.
Together they raised four daughters, and Nona took care of their child, Rinda Lisa, who had special needs, until Rinda's death in 1996.
Keith and Nona were faithful members of 6th and Jackson Church of Christ. She was an inspiring Christian example as a wife, mother, sister and grandmother.
Nona is preceded in death by her husband Keith Armstrong, daughter Rinda Lisa, parents Paul and Dessie Fritts, brother Gerald Fritts, brother Delbert Fritts, brother Kenneth Fritts and sister Wauneta Swinney.
Nona is survived by her daughter Laura and her husband Bill Elder of Odessa, TX, daughter Barbara and her husband Terry Boswell of Chipala, Mexico, daughter Tami and her husband Roger Bower of Midland, TX; 5 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; sisters Adelia Fritts of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Thelda Watson of Yukon, Oklahoma.
The family of Nona Armstrong would like to thank Dr. Vogel of Midland, TX, Cindy Roach and the rest of the staff at Hospice of Midland and Home Nursing in Odessa.
